THE FRIENDS OF OLEKSANDRIYA CHARITY

Updated: 08/09/2023

This blog is about the journey of The Friends of Oleksandriya, a charity that started to help a city called Oleksandriya, which is similar in size to Bath. It all began in February 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine.

Zhenya, the charity's founder, initially raised funds to assist Ukrainians and send medical supplies through other charities. Eventually, plans were made to create a new charity specifically for Oleksandriya.

Nicole joined the charity and became the performer for their events. She met Everton, a musician who played for her during the events. In December 2022, The Friends of Oleksandriya raised £125,000 from donors, many of whom were local to Bath and the surrounding areas.

The charity officially became established on January 5, 2023, to provide support to Oleksandriya. They used donations to buy generators for schools, homes, warming places for refugees, hospitals, and even an ambulance for a children's hospital. They also funded the purchase of bedding for refugees and repairs at a community centre.

Their first major concert, on February 24, 2023, told the story of the war through acting, singing, and music, mostly in Ukrainian. Another concert at St Luke's church in Bath raised money for ambulances, and more events are planned to continue supporting Oleksandriya.

On August 11, 2023, an agreement was signed to partner Bath and Oleksandriya, strengthening their collaboration.
